Aston Elementary Fifth Graders Bring “Classroom Cities” to Life

Fifth grade students at Aston Elementary welcomed families into their “Classroom Cities” on May 8, showcasing a hands-on project that combined lessons in government, economics, leadership, and financial responsibility.

Working together as “citizens,” students designed and sustained their own classroom mini-cities while learning how communities operate. Throughout the project, students planned geographical and political structures, elected officials, appointed individuals to city positions, and managed money through buying and selling goods and services.

The experience gave students the opportunity to apply classroom learning in a creative, real-world setting while developing teamwork, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Families visited the three student-created cities - Jessauratic Park, Portington D.C., and Saint Weberton - to see the students’ hard work and creativity firsthand.
